A delegation led by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has arrived in Azerbaijan on a visit.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported the visit, citing Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov, a colonel general, met Momeni and the delegation he led.
Highlighting the importance of cooperation between the two countries’ interior ministries, Eyvazov said they were focused on combating major forms of transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking, international terrorism, human trafficking, illegal migration and cybercrime. He stressed that effective action against these threats was possible only through joint efforts.
Eyvazov said Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs was interested in identifying new areas for cooperation and further expanding bilateral ties.
He then briefed the guests on the current crime situation in Azerbaijan, saying law enforcement agencies were working closely and taking comprehensive measures against organized crime, international terrorism, extremism, separatism and drug trafficking.
Momeni said exchanging information and experience in the fight against transnational organized crime would have a positive impact on regional security. He stressed that Iranian law enforcement agencies attached great importance to deepening cooperation with their Azerbaijani counterparts.
