The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) has approved a new draft law in its first reading aimed at preventing the employment of drug-addicted individuals and increasing employer responsibility in this area. The legislative initiative seeks to tighten regulations regarding workplace safety and public health by ensuring that individuals with substance abuse issues do not occupy sensitive positions.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the proposed amendments to the Labor Code and the Law "On Narcological Service and Control" were discussed during today's plenary session of the parliament. According to the briefing, the legal framework is being improved to prevent the recruitment of drug-dependent persons for specific professions and positions where such activities are legally restricted. The changes will empower employers to require medical examinations and provide a legal basis for the termination of employment contracts if drug addiction is confirmed in roles where it is prohibited.

In Azerbaijan, the government continues to strengthen its legal framework to combat drug abuse and ensure workplace security. These amendments are part of a broader national strategy to enhance social welfare and public safety. By integrating stricter narcological controls into the Labor Code, the Republic of Azerbaijan aims to mitigate risks in various sectors, particularly those involving public transport, security, and heavy industry, where sobriety is a critical requirement for operational safety.
