An attack targeted the Al-Jabsa gas export pipeline in the Al-Arbeidi area of Hasakah countryside in northeastern Syria, causing a fire, Syrian state news agency SANA reported on Thursday.
Uday al-Satouf, a spokesman for the “Syrian Petroleum Company”, told SANA that the targeted area is 60 kilometres (37 miles) from the city of Al-Shaddadi.
Al-Satouf said the fire spread along the pipeline. Specialist authorities were monitoring the situation and working to address the explosion and contain its effects, he added.
The area was isolated, and sectional valves on both sides of the targeted section were closed. Firefighting, security and safety teams secured the surrounding area.
No information was available on casualties or who carried out the attack.
