Arteta praises Arsenal’s character after comeback win over Leeds

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta assessed his side’s win over Leeds United in the sixth round of the English Premier League. The match, played at the Emirates Stadium on October 10, ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

Arteta said the team knew they were facing a difficult game. According to the coach, Arsenal took to the pitch after being without 16 players over a three-week period and suffering a heavy defeat in their previous match. He also noted that Leeds had yet to lose in the Premier League and deserved their position in the standings.

Arsenal mount comeback

Justin opened the scoring for Leeds in the 55th minute. Riccardo Calafiori equalised in the 62nd minute, and Bruno Guimarães scored the winning goal for Arsenal in the 70th minute.

Arteta said his team controlled the game in the first half but did not make enough use of the open spaces and attacking opportunities. He stressed that the visitors posed a threat in the penalty area.

According to the coach, after falling behind, his players renewed their determination to win and showed character and courage. Arteta told the club’s official website that the substitutes also had a significant impact on the match.
