Protecting the Caspian Sea’s unique ecosystem is a shared responsibility of all Caspian littoral states.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks at the Caspian Environmental Summit in Turkmenbashi.
The head of state said the Caspian countries had developed an extensive treaty and legal framework over the years, adding that Azerbaijan is party to almost all international legal documents signed by the five states.
President Ilham Aliyev also noted the historic significance of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, signed in 2018, describing it as the result of many years of joint work by the five Caspian littoral states.
The convention establishes a framework for cooperation among the five countries on matters concerning the Caspian Sea. Environmental protection and the sustainable use of the sea’s resources remain important areas for regional coordination.
