President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Lord Anas Sarwar, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Minister of State for Trade at the Department for Business, Innovation and Trade and co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, on October 6.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Lord Anas Sarwar, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Minister of State for Trade at the Department for Business, Innovation and Trade and co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, on October 6.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Lord Anas Sarwar presented the head of state with a letter from UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, and said the prime minister attached great importance to the long-standing and steadily developing cooperation with Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked the UK prime minister for the letter.
Lord Anas Sarwar said the UK intended to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev said active cooperation had been established between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, noting that the two countries had been close partners for many years since Azerbaijan restored its independence.
The sides welcomed the recent visit to Azerbaijan by the UK Minister of State for Defence, Lord Vernon Coaker. They said the recent increase in official visits from the United Kingdom at various levels reflected the strategic importance of bilateral relations.
They also discussed the significance of the eighth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, held in Baku. The meeting was described as a good opportunity to discuss issues across several areas on the economic agenda.
The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in energy, trade and the economy, business, security, the defense industry, data centers, artificial intelligence, agriculture, education and other areas.
