The European Parliament is a nest of bribe-takers.
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks on Sept. 15 while receiving a delegation comprising Kubanychbek Omuraliev, secretary-general of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS); members and observers of the OTS Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Institutions; co-organizers of the Yahya Bakuvi International Conference; and members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Peoples of the Caucasus.
The head of state said the Council of Europe had effectively supported the occupation:
"The European Parliament has always supported occupying Armenia, and this remains the case today. This is a small illustration of the attitude toward us. Look at whom we were facing. Armenia was not alone. If Armenia had been alone, this issue would have been resolved long ago. Or if international sanctions had been imposed on Armenia at that time for this occupation, this brutality and this genocide, the issue would have been resolved long ago. They did not do so deliberately and intentionally. Today, sanctions are imposed everywhere, whether appropriate or not. But Armenia seized 20 percent of another country's territory, expelled 700,000 people from there, expelled 250,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia, and destroyed everything, including all the cities. Why did you not impose sanctions on it? This means double standards. It is clear where these double standards come from. In any case, they do not come from the Islamic world. Therefore, we must all know this."
Ilham Aliyev also stressed that the Council of Europe had not imposed sanctions on Armenia:
"But when we fully liberated Garabagh in September 2023, eradicated separatism and arrested the separatists, the Council of Europe imposed sanctions on us four months later. This is their true face. The European Parliament is a nest of bribe-takers. I say this with full responsibility—the European Parliament is a nest of bribe-takers. Millions of dollars were found in suitcases at the home of its vice president, and they covered it all up. It was as if nothing had happened. Her name is known; she is a female member of parliament from Greece. How many years have passed since then? Has any action been taken against her? No. Has she been held accountable? No. She was released. The European Parliament consists of these Islamophobes, and this must always remain in the spotlight."
Aliyev’s remarks referred to Azerbaijan’s position that international actors applied double standards during the conflict over Garabagh. Azerbaijan regained control over the region in September 2023 following military operations, after which the Azerbaijani government announced the end of the separatist administration there.
