Aliyev briefs Latvian president on peace process with Armenia

President Ilham Aliyev has provided Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics with detailed information regarding the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state made these remarks during a joint press statement on April 22, following a meeting with President Edgars Rinkevics, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that a de-facto peace currently exists between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He recalled that the leaders of both nations were invited to the White House last year by US President Donald Trump, leading to the signing of a Joint Declaration and the initialing of documents by the respective foreign ministers.

The meeting in Baku highlights the growing diplomatic engagement between Azerbaijan and Baltic states. Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for the normalization of relations in the South Caucasus based on the principles of international law and mutual recognition of territorial integrity. As a member of the European Union and NATO, Latvia plays a significant role in supporting regional stability and fostering cooperation between the South Caucasus and European institutions, particularly in the fields of energy security and transport logistics.
