Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev held an expanded-format meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 12.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the meeting, said: “Mr. Prime Minister, distinguished guests, welcome to Azerbaijan once again. I am very pleased to receive you and thank you for accepting my invitation to pay an official visit to our country.

“We have just had good discussions on a wide range of issues on our bilateral agenda. I am confident there is great potential to strengthen our partnership. As I noted at our meeting just now, we have very good political relations, and we should build on them, as well as on your official visit to Azerbaijan, to develop a broad roadmap for partnership in various areas. We have already discussed some important areas of our cooperation, and I am confident there will be more. Of course, your visit, which demonstrates our friendship, will provide a good opportunity to explore the full potential of bilateral contacts, whether in trade, investment, joint production, energy security or many other areas.

“I would also like to thank you for accepting my invitation to attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit. The summit will take place soon. This is the first time Azerbaijan is hosting this event. As you know, our chairmanship was supported unanimously. We regard this as a clear demonstration of the member states’ respect for our policy, which is based on sovereignty and an independent position. I hope this important international event will contribute to security in our region and the wider Eurasian region. I think all countries need this.

“Mr. Prime Minister, welcome once again. I am very pleased that you are visiting us with a large delegation. I wish all our guests a pleasant stay in Azerbaijan. I am confident that the visit will produce good results and strengthen our friendship and cooperation.”

Prime Minister Hun Manet said: “Mr. President, I would like to thank you once again for inviting me to attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit and for this official visit. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to visit your beautiful country. I thank you for the hospitality shown to me and my delegation so far. As we have just discussed, we have many opportunities to expand our relations and cooperation, which were established more than 30 years ago.

“I would like to take this opportunity to convey the greetings of King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia and Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia, to Your Excellency. I look forward to continuing our discussions—not just on the topics we have discussed, but on the steps our countries can take together to broaden cooperation.”

“Mr. President, thank you once again for your invitation.”

President Ilham Aliyev said: “Thank you. Please also convey my greetings to His Majesty the King and to the former Prime Minister, who is now President of the Senate and whom I met in this building 12 years ago.”
