Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov met with President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the Cabinet of Ministers announced the meeting.
The sides stressed that the Lao president’s visit to Azerbaijan was especially significant as the first high-level visit in the history of bilateral relations. They said the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and the joint statement adopted by the two presidents would give important impetus to the development of Azerbaijan-Laos ties.
They also highlighted the importance of the Lao president’s participation in the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Information was provided on efforts during Azerbaijan’s 2024–2026 chairmanship of CICA to advance the organization’s institutional development, establish new cooperation platforms and promote practical initiatives.
The meeting also addressed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in trade and the economy, transport and logistics, energy, humanitarian affairs, mine clearance and other areas.
