At least 781 migrants crossed the English Channel to reach the United Kingdom on Wednesday, marking the highest single-day total recorded this year, according to Home Office data cited by Sky News.
The migrants arrived in 10 small boats, the figures showed.
The latest total surpassed the previous 2026 record, set on July 29, when 752 people crossed the Channel in nine boats.
Home Office vows tougher action
Responding to the figures, the Home Office said it would “push further and harder” to prevent crossings in small boats.
In December 2025, 803 people arrived in the UK in 13 small boats.
Overall crossings remain lower than last year
Despite the continued arrivals, the overall number of Channel crossings has declined this year.
More than 18,500 migrants have crossed the Channel so far in 2026, a 45% decrease from the same period in 2025.
