A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot in a Baltimore park during an apparent argument over a parking space, police said, according to the BBC.
The girl was caught in crossfire between two men who allegedly argued over the space as children played American football nearby. Police said they were looking for at least two suspects.
Three others injured
Officers found a woman with gunshot wounds at the scene. Two men also went to local hospitals with injuries linked to the shooting, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said at a news conference.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. Worley said the three other injured people had non-life-threatening injuries.
“They both opened fire on each other. In the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl, who was probably down there watching football, was shot and killed,” Worley said. He added that the girl was not the target.
Investigation ongoing
The shooting happened after 18:00 EDT on Saturday, which was 23:00 BST. Authorities are investigating and have asked witnesses to share information with police. The number of shots fired is not yet known, Worley said.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said two men had argued and a 12-year-old had died, calling the incident “one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life”.
