Turkish kickboxer Yigit Sisman won the gold medal at the world championships held in Italy. The athlete, who competed in the 57-kilogram weight class at the tournament held from Sept. 18-27, claimed the first world title of his career.
Yigit Sisman defeated his Israeli opponent 3-0 in the final. Previously, he had beaten representatives of China, Slovenia and Uzbekistan, winning all of his bouts by the same score.
The kickboxer from Kastamonu said he felt additional pressure in the final because he was competing both for the world title and against an Israeli opponent. He said the Turkish national anthem was played after his victory.
Yigit Sisman said he dedicated his world title to Palestinian children and the Palestinian people.
The athlete began training in 2016. He has also won Turkish muay thai titles and finished runner-up in Europe and third at the world championships.
Head coach Bekir Shukakidze said he was pleased with the victory. The Georgia-born coach said he had lived in Türkiye for 19 years and had obtained Turkish citizenship.
