Emmanuel Petit, a 1998 World Cup winner with France, has discussed PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier’s competition with Matvey Safonov.
Petit said a top-level professional athlete wants to play and cannot be content with spending an entire career as a reserve goalkeeper. He said the pressure had been too great for Chevalier, who was not psychologically prepared for the challenges awaiting him at PSG. Sports.fr published Petit’s remarks.
Safonov is currently PSG’s first-choice goalkeeper. Chevalier joined the Paris club in 2025 and has not played in any match this season.
