More than 20,000 Palestinian students and over 1,000 education staff members have been killed in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank over the past three years, the Palestinian Education Ministry said Wednesday.
The ministry said its report on Israeli violations against the education sector covers students and staff at schools and universities, as well as injuries, arrests and damage to educational institutions.
Figures reported in Gaza
In the Gaza Strip, 19,189 school students and 1,386 university students have been killed, according to the ministry. A further 28,586 school students and 3,082 university students were injured.
The ministry reported that 805 school education and administrative staff members and 246 university personnel were killed. Another 3,298 school staff members and 1,493 university staff were injured.
Detentions and casualties in the West Bank
In the occupied West Bank, 134 school students and 39 university students were killed, while 871 school students and 283 university students were injured, the report said. Israeli forces detained 416 school students and 481 university students.
Seven school education and administrative staff members were killed and 26 were injured. More than 176 teachers and school employees, as well as 21 university staff members, were detained, according to the ministry.
The report said that since October 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured in Gaza. It also said around 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure had been damaged or destroyed.
Over the same period, Israeli forces and occupiers have intensified attacks in the occupied West Bank, killing 1,210 Palestinians, injuring around 13,350 and detaining more than 24,600, the report said.
