Spanish rider Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo team won the Japanese Grand Prix, part of the MotoGP world championship. He claimed his sixth race victory of the season.
The championship’s 16th race was held over 24 laps at the 4.8-kilometer Motegi circuit in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture. Marquez crossed the finish line in 41 minutes and 31.467 seconds, ahead of his rivals.
Spanish rider Jorge Martin of Aprilia finished second, 1.363 seconds behind the winner. His teammate, Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi, came third, 2.252 seconds back. Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu of Prima Pramac Yamaha finished 17th.
The Indonesian Grand Prix, the season’s 17th round, will take place on Oct. 11. Martin leads the riders’ standings with 333 points. Marquez is second with 331, followed by Bezzecchi with 284. Pedro Acosta, on 243 points, and Ai Ogura, on 237, complete the top five. Razgatlioglu is 21st with 18 points.
