Iran will deliver its response to US proposals aimed at ending the conflict through mediators, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Wednesday, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
Baghaei said Tehran had outlined its “considerations and conditions” for ending the conflict on all fronts and restoring security in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz. Messages between Iran and the United States are being exchanged through intermediaries, he added.
Responding to remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said earlier Wednesday that Iran had missed multiple opportunities to reach a nuclear agreement with Washington, Baghaei accused the United States of repeatedly breaking its commitments.
Baghaei cited Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement in 2018, what he described as disruptions to diplomatic efforts, and military attacks on Iran during negotiations. He said the United States was responsible for insecurity in the region and its economic consequences in the US and worldwide.
On maritime navigation, Baghaei said Iran and Oman had made progress in consultations to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz. The two countries had agreed on the geographic coordinates of safe inbound and outbound shipping routes through the waterway, he said.
They had also reached an understanding on how to notify the relevant international body about the arrangement, a step Baghaei said would take place “soon.” He added that Iran would continue working to strengthen trust and engagement among countries in the region.
