Yemen’s government has launched comprehensive military operations against the Houthis, with the stated aim of regaining control of the country, Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi said on Sunday.
In a televised address, Al-Alimi said he had ordered the armed forces, security forces and other military formations to begin their assigned tasks under an approved plan to “liberate” the country from the Houthis.
He added that all state institutions would remain on full alert until the mission was completed and victory achieved.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government. A truce agreed in 2022 collapsed in July, and fighting has since intensified.
