A tanker was damaged by an “unidentified” projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said.
In a notice dated Oct. 11, the agency said the vessel’s company security officer had reported that the projectile struck the tanker’s port side.
All crew members were safe, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the incident, the notice said.
The incident occurred at 1200 GMT. The agency did not identify the tanker, its flag or its operator.
Authorities were investigating, UKMTO said, advising vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the maritime monitoring organization.
