Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ordered a tanker sailing through the Strait of Hormuz to turn back or face being targeted, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday, 11 nautical miles (20 kilometres) north of Khasab, Oman, UKMTO said in an advisory.
The tanker was travelling inbound through the strait when the IRGC hailed it and instructed it to turn around. The vessel’s master confirmed that the tanker complied.
Authorities are investigating the incident. UKMTO advised vessels in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
