At least six migrants died and 14 others were rescued after a speedboat carrying migrants capsized in the Aegean Sea north of Greece’s Samos island on Monday, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Kathimerini.
The incident took place about 3.7 nautical miles north of Samos. The Greek Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation.
The bodies of five men and one woman were recovered. All 14 survivors were men.
The boat was travelling at high speed when it capsized after a sharp manoeuvre. A Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel, a rescue boat and an Air Force helicopter were sent to search for possible missing people.
Earlier on Monday, six migrants, including an infant, died when a speedboat collided with a Greek Coast Guard vessel off Lesvos island. Eight people were rescued in that incident.
