Swindon manager Ian Holloway said Manchester City’s owners should lose all their wealth and start again over the club’s breaches of financial rules.
Holloway recalled losing to Manchester City while managing Blackpool during the 2010/11 season. He said his team were inferior to their opponents, but he believed Manchester City’s alleged rule-breaking had been overlooked. Holloway said he did not believe manager Pep Guardiola knew about it, adding that responsibility lay with the people at the very top of the club.
“It is a disgrace, and they still do not admit it. How can they destroy football, which is part of our country? The key issue is the team and the belief that it can be stronger than its rivals through fair competition. They have destroyed that,” Holloway said, according to Match of the Day.
Last month, an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all the charges brought against it over alleged breaches of financial rules across nine seasons.
