A German court has convicted two men of working for Iran and planning attacks against pro-Israel figures in Germany.
The Higher Regional Court in Hamburg sentenced a Danish citizen of Afghan origin to 8½ years in prison and an Afghan national to 4½ years. The sentences matched the requests of federal prosecutors, while defence lawyers had sought acquittals.
The court found that the men, who lived in Denmark, had scouted pro-Israel figures as part of an assassination plot and worked on plans for an arson attack on a kosher food store in Berlin.
German authorities said the prime suspect received orders directly from officers of the Quds Force, the foreign operations unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
Both men were arrested in Denmark last year following tips from Danish intelligence and were later transferred to Germany.
The 54-year-old was detained in Aarhus in the summer of 2025, while the 43-year-old was taken into custody in November.
