Erzurumspor president Ahmet Dal has denied reports that Azerbaijan national team player Nariman Akhundzada would leave the club during the winter transfer window. The club has no such plans and has confidence in the forward, Dal said.
Dal said the club was pleased with Akhundzada’s performances and commitment in training. He added that the player was popular at the club and was also committed to Erzurumspor. Such rumors are common during transfer windows, the club president said.
Dal attributed the time Akhundzada has needed to adapt to joining the club late, after being with the national team at the start of the season, as well as to Erzurum’s geographical conditions. The city’s high altitude and climate can make it difficult for new players to adjust. Head coach Serkan Balta is satisfied with the forward’s performance, the club said.
The club president also said Akhundzada’s transfer had contributed to the brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, and that Erzurumspor was interested in continuing this cooperation. The 22-year-old is under contract with U.S. club Columbus Crew. Erzurumspor signed him on a one-year loan in August. (AZERTAC)
