FIDE has updated its world chess rankings as of Oct. 1, 2026. Azerbaijani grandmasters Aydin Suleymanli and Mahammad Muradli have achieved career-best positions.
Suleymanli, who helped Azerbaijan’s men’s team finish fifth at the World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, gained 15 rating points compared with the previous month. He climbed from 49th to 41st with 2,679 points. He needs 21 more points to reach the 2,700 rating mark.
Muradli added nine points during the reporting period. With 2,662 points, he rose from 64th to 53rd. This is also the highest rating of his career.
Positions of Azerbaijani chess players
Shakhriyar Mamedyarov is the highest-ranked Azerbaijani player. The grandmaster lost 10 points after the Olympiad and stands 29th with 2,710 points. Teymur Rajabov is 38th with 2,689 points, while Rauf Mammadov is 89th with 2,632.
In the women’s rankings, Ulviyya Fataliyeva fell from 43rd to 55th with 2,395 points and dropped out of the “2,400” club. Govhar Beydullayeva is 57th with 2,392 points, Khanim Balajayeva is 83rd with 2,357, and Gunay Mammadzada is 93rd with 2,348.
Azerbaijan climbed from seventh to sixth place in the men’s country rankings with 2,630 points. In the women’s country rankings, Azerbaijan is 11th with 2,293 points.
