UFC fighter Andrey Pulyayev has shared his thoughts on Roman Kopilov’s next bout. Kopilov will face Ateba Gauthier at a tournament in Salt Lake City on Oct. 4. Pulyayev is also scheduled to fight Damien Pinas that evening.
Pulyayev previously faced Gauthier and lost by judges’ decision. He said he wanted Kopilov to win and believed in his compatriot.
“I want Kopilov to bring Gauthier back down to earth. They are pushing him forward and giving him favorable opponents. I want Gauthier to run into Kopilov. As his compatriot and a fellow Siberian, I really want Roman to win,” Pulyayev said.
Pulyayev said the first round could be difficult for Kopilov. He believes the Russian fighter will have no trouble in the later rounds if he gets through the opening round successfully.
“The first round will be tough for Roman. If he can move around and avoid the strikes, the second and third rounds will go even better than they did in my fight. Roman has more experience than I do. I think he won’t have problems after the first round,” Pulyayev added.
