US death row inmate Christa Pike is “conscious and speaking” after a failed execution attempt, her lawyers said Tuesday, according to the BBC.
The 50-year-old continues to receive critical medical care at a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, while handcuffed, her attorneys said in a statement.
Pike survived two lethal injections last week and was taken to hospital for treatment. Her lawyers had said in the days after the attempt that she was unconscious while medical staff worked to remove the injected pentobarbital from her body.
She was sentenced to death after being convicted of murdering Colleen Slemmer in 1995.
