Liechtenstein player Aron Sele said his team went into its goalless draw with Azerbaijan believing it could earn a point.
The 30-year-old midfielder described Azerbaijan as a strong team with quality players. He said Liechtenstein prepared with its opponents’ level in mind but believed any result was possible on the pitch.
“This is a good result for us”
Sele said the match was difficult and that his teammates gave everything. In his view, the 0-0 score was a good result for Liechtenstein.
The midfielder said he had not known that the team had earned its first point after 18 consecutive defeats. He added that picking up a point after such a long wait felt good.
The team aims to compete in every match
Sele said the coach congratulated the players after the match and told them they had worked hard both in this game and in their preparations. Some members of the Liechtenstein national team have jobs, while others are studying, he said, adding that they nevertheless try to play as a team.
According to Sele, Liechtenstein will try to get as much as possible from every match, fight until the end and do its best while taking its level into account.
