The official terminology for artificial intelligence technology has been changed in the United States. A White House memorandum says all ministries and government agencies must use the terms “superintelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, public statements, policy documents and other non-legal materials.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the White House issued the statement.
Under the decision, the president’s adviser on science and technology has been tasked with developing a definition of “superintelligence” that reflects the current state of the technology.
US President Donald Trump also shared on social media a document he signed with the heads of leading technology companies.
The document, titled the “White House Superintelligence Accord,” was signed by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
The document says the companies are committed to responsible technology development. It states that each company is responsible for developing its technology safely and in a way that maintains the trust of customers and the public.
The accord stresses that companies developing and deploying advanced models should have strong internal processes and oversight mechanisms to ensure their technologies operate as intended.
According to the document, potential problems must be identified and addressed promptly. These measures are expected to give companies, customers and the public confidence that the technology is functioning appropriately.
The companies will hold regular meetings to establish standards and best practices aimed at improving the security of their systems. The document says that, over time, it may be appropriate to turn these measures into laws or regulations.
It also emphasizes that the companies are prepared to implement these oversight and testing mechanisms, describing them as important to ensuring a safer future for everyone.
