US President Donald Trump has announced a series of major energy infrastructure investments, including a multibillion-dollar natural gas power facility in Texas, eight new nuclear reactors and the development of the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project.

“We’re thrilled to announce one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in American history,” Trump told reporters at the White House, according to the announcement.

Texas power facility

The centerpiece of the plans is a proposed $22.3 billion, 6.5-gigawatt natural gas power facility in Encinal, Texas. Trump said the plant would rank among the largest natural gas power stations ever built.

“The natural gas power plant in Texas will be among the largest ever built,” he said.

New nuclear reactors and Alaska LNG

Trump also announced plans for eight large nuclear reactors, saying the projects would strengthen the United States’ position in the global nuclear energy sector.

“The eight new nuclear reactors will solidify our position as the world’s leader in nuclear power,” the president said.

He also highlighted the Alaska LNG project, which he said would expand the country’s capacity to produce and transport liquefied natural gas.

“And by building the Alaska LNG pipeline, we’ll deliver nearly 4 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day,” Trump said.
