Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said he would like Liverpool and Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz to play for his team.
De la Fuente made the comments in an interview with Bild. Asked which Germany player he would like to have in the Spain squad, he replied: “Florian Wirtz — he is a great footballer. Unfortunately, he does not have a Spanish passport.”
Spain are the reigning world and European champions. In the second round of the Nations League, Spain defeated Croatia 4-1 at home on Sept. 29. The UEFA Nations League is a competition for Europe’s national teams, while Wirtz has represented Germany at international level.
