Spain set world record with 40-game unbeaten run

Spain beat Croatia 4-1 in the second-round match of Group 3 in League A of the UEFA Nations League. The match, played at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, extended Spain’s unbeaten run to 40 games.

Spain’s last defeat in regulation time came against Colombia in a friendly in March 2024, when they lost 1-0. Their last defeat in an official match was a 2-0 loss to Scotland in the UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign in March 2023.

With the result, Spain set a new national record for an unbeaten run in official matches. The team had previously extended its run to 38 games during the World Cup final tournament. The previous world record belonged to Italy, which went unbeaten in 37 matches between September 2018 and October 2021.

The penalty shootout defeat to Portugal in the 2025 UEFA Nations League final was not included in this calculation. The match ended 2-2 after regulation time, with Portugal winning the shootout 5-3.
