Former Australian bishop Christopher Saunders has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for sexually abusing two young Aboriginal men while serving as a cleric, the BBC reported.
The 76-year-old was convicted of one count of rape and 12 counts of indecent assault. He will be eligible for parole in February 2031.
Saunders resigned as Bishop of Broome in 2020, when he was first accused of wrongdoing. He is among the most senior Catholic clerics in the world to face charges of this nature.
