A fire believed to have been caused by sabotage broke out on a gas pipeline in eastern Syria on Monday, disrupting supplies from the Jbessa plant to power stations, the official SANA news agency reported.
The blaze occurred along a section of the pipeline between Al-Shoula and Deir ez-Zor, SANA said.
Hisham al-Saleh, a gas-sector official at the Syrian Petroleum Company, said the fire had halted the flow of gas from the Jbessa plant to electricity-generation stations.
Firefighting teams isolate pipeline section
Firefighting crews isolated the affected part of the pipeline and continued working to extinguish the blaze as gas pressure in the area fell, al-Saleh added.
Earlier on Monday, local sources told Anadolu Agency that Syrian civil defence teams had been sent to the site near Al-Shoula to help bring the fire under control.
