The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges public caution as cold, windy, and rainy conditions persist across the country.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Azerbaijan has issued a renewed safety warning to the public as cold, windy, and rainy weather conditions continue to affect the country, including Baku and the Absheron Peninsula.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that due to the current weather conditions, the MES has urged citizens to strictly adhere to safety measures to prevent accidents and fire hazards. The ministry noted that the sharp drop in temperature has led to a significant increase in the use of gas and electric heating appliances across Azerbaijan.

To mitigate fire risks, the ministry advised against using faulty, non-standard, or improvised heating devices and warned against overloading electrical networks. Furthermore, leaving active heaters unattended is strictly prohibited. For residents in mountainous regions, the MES recommends avoiding travel during frosty and snowy conditions. If travel is necessary, citizens should inform relatives of their routes, ensure vehicles are winter-ready with sufficient fuel, and stay clear of avalanche-prone slopes and steep terrains.

Cold and frosty weather conditions to continue in Azerbaijan

In addition to heating safety, the MES cautioned against the dangers of strong winds, advising the public to stay away from light or temporary structures, billboards, power lines, and tall trees. The ministry emphasized that high winds can complicate firefighting efforts, making strict compliance with fire safety regulations even more critical during this period. In case of emergencies, citizens are urged to immediately contact the "112" hotline.

Seasonal weather shifts in Azerbaijan often bring rapid temperature drops and heavy precipitation, particularly in the Caucasus mountain ranges and the Absheron Peninsula. The Ministry of Emergency Situations regularly conducts awareness campaigns to educate the population on disaster preparedness and domestic safety. These measures are part of Azerbaijan's broader civil defense strategy to minimize casualties and property damage during extreme weather events.
