Yellow and orange weather warnings have been issued for January 20 across Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and most regions of Azerbaijan due to forecasted strong winds.
According to information provided by the National Hydrometeorological Service to the Operative Information Center-OMM, an orange alert has been specifically issued for the Neftchala and Khizi districts. In these areas, northern winds are expected to intensify significantly, with speeds reaching between 20.8 and 28.4 meters per second.
A yellow alert will remain in effect for the capital, Baku, and the Absheron Peninsula, as well as several other regions including Ganja, Sumgait, Mingachevir, Shirvan, Nakhchivan, Kalbajar, Lachin, Füzuli, and Zangilan. Other affected areas include Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Shamkir, Naftalan, Samux, Goranboy, Gusar, Shabran, Khachmaz, Guba, Siyazan, Gobustan, Shamakhi, Salyan, Sabirabad, Saatli, Hajigabul, Tartar, Yevlax, Barda, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Goygol, Lankaran, Masalli, Astara, Bilasuvar, Lerik, Yardimli, and Jalilabad. In these territories, the northern wind is expected to reach speeds of 13.9 to 20.7 meters per second.
The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan regularly monitors atmospheric conditions to provide timely safety alerts. Orange warnings indicate a potential risk to infrastructure and public safety, while yellow warnings signify a need for caution during outdoor activities.
