President Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Azerbaijan, Sally-Anne Vincent, on January 30.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state, followed by a discussion regarding the bilateral agenda between the two nations. President Ilham Aliyev noted that despite the geographical distance between Azerbaijan and Australia, there are significant opportunities for cooperation in the economic, trade, and investment sectors. He expressed satisfaction with the current development of political relations and wished the ambassador success in her diplomatic mission.
Ambassador Sally-Anne Vincent expressed her honor at being appointed to Azerbaijan, recalling her previous visit to the country and pledging to work toward expanding bilateral ties. She conveyed her gratitude for the letter sent by President Ilham Aliyev to the Governor-General of Australia, Samanth Mostyn, on the occasion of Australia's national day. The ambassador also highlighted the successful cooperation during COP29, noting Australia's large delegation at the event in Baku and praising Azerbaijan's efforts regarding Australia and Türkiye's bid to host COP31.
The meeting also touched upon Azerbaijan's upcoming hosting of the World Urban Forum, a major United Nations event, where Australia intends to be represented by a broad delegation. Discussions covered cooperation in political, economic, and green energy sectors, emphasizing that mutual high-level visits play a crucial role in deepening relations. It was noted that the two countries will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Australia were officially established in 1992. Over the past three decades, the two countries have maintained a steady dialogue within international organizations, including the United Nations. Azerbaijan remains a key partner for Australia in the South Caucasus, particularly in the context of global energy security and climate action initiatives, as evidenced by the recent collaboration during the COP29 summit held in Baku.
