A professional staff delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs has conducted an official visit to Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov received the visiting delegation to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and regional developments.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the current regional situation, the significance of agreements reached during the Washington Peace Summit on August 8, and the ongoing measures regarding the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the draft peace agreement. Discussions also focused on the finalizing stages of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership Charter project, alongside other issues of mutual interest on the bilateral agenda. Furthermore, an exchange of views took place regarding initiatives raised in Congress concerning Azerbaijan, with the Azerbaijani side emphasizing the importance of repealing the 907th Amendment to the Freedom Support Act.
The visit comes at a pivotal time for South Caucasus diplomacy, as Azerbaijan continues to advocate for a sustainable peace treaty based on the principles of international law and territorial integrity. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, diplomatic engagements between Washington and Baku have seen a renewed focus on strategic energy security and regional stability. The repeal of Section 907 remains a long-standing priority for Baku to ensure equitable treatment in bilateral defense and security cooperation.
