Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, has met with the United Nations Acting Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Igor Garafulic, to discuss future partnership prospects.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the UN office in Azerbaijan shared details of the meeting on the X social media platform. The discussions focused on the upcoming Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030, which will serve as the primary document for joint activities between the UN and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on strengthening the partnership through the implementation of the new program and identified priority areas for joint action. The discussions emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to multilateral cooperation and the significant steps taken toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was noted that the UN system is keen on expanding its collaboration with Azerbaijan across various sectors.
The entire UN team operating in Azerbaijan remains fully committed to supporting the national priorities established by the country in the field of sustainable development. This cooperation is particularly vital as Azerbaijan continues its large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, integrating these regions into the national economy while ensuring environmental sustainability and social progress.
The United Nations has maintained a presence in Azerbaijan since the early 1990s, shortly after the country gained independence. Over the decades, the partnership has evolved from providing humanitarian assistance to supporting long-term development, institutional reforms, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The new 2026–2030 framework is expected to align closely with Azerbaijan's "National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development: 2030" strategy.
