Azerbaijan's State Committee for City Planning and Architecture and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have signed a Letter of Intent to cooperate on the joint preparation of operational guidelines for hosting future sessions of the World Urban Forum (WUF) based on WUF13 Baku standards.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the signing ceremony took place following a meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Anaclaudia Rossbach, on May 16. The document was signed by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for City Planning and Architecture, and Anaclaudia Rossbach.
The agreement aims to enhance the operational efficiency of future events by leveraging the successful preparation phase of WUF13 held in Baku. The document is designed to support decision-making processes for future host parties, ensuring that the high standards established in the Azerbaijani capital are maintained in subsequent global urban summits.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. By hosting such high-level international events, Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its role as a regional hub for diplomatic and developmental dialogue. The collaboration with UN-Habitat underscores Azerbaijan's commitment to the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities.
