Saudi Arabia and Yemen seek US assistance amid Houthi activity

Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government have asked the United States for assistance amid renewed Houthi activity.

"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports, citing foreign media.

According to the reports, Yemen has asked the United States to restore support for the country's armed forces and humanitarian programs.

A diplomat said Saudi Arabia was also seeking to draw the White House's attention to the situation in the region.

"For Saudi Arabia, accepting that strategic areas in Yemen remain under Houthi control means accepting a lasting national security crisis," the unnamed diplomat said.

However, the diplomat believes that the United States will most likely refrain from taking active military steps in the region.

"Except for Iran, the Americans do not want to become involved in any conflict in the region. Yet this is, in fact, a strategic failure for the United States," the source added.

The conflict in Yemen began in 2014. The country has experienced relative calm since 2022. However, fighting between government forces and the Houthis intensified again in various parts of the country in early July 2026.

Yemen's conflict has created a prolonged humanitarian crisis and drawn regional and international involvement. The Houthis control parts of the country and have previously engaged in hostilities affecting regional security and maritime traffic, while efforts to reach a lasting political settlement have continued.
