President Ilham Aliyev received Mihai Popșoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, on March 6. During the meeting, Popșoi conveyed the greetings of Moldovan President Maia Sandu to the Azerbaijani leader. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked the minister to reciprocate his best wishes to President Sandu, recalling their previous discussions within international frameworks.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Moldovan official strongly condemned recent drone attacks against Azerbaijan, expressing Chisinau's firm solidarity with Baku. Popșoi also highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, noting that Moldova highly appreciates the support provided by Azerbaijan during challenging periods. The sides reaffirmed their mutual support for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, while discussing the expansion of cooperation in political, economic, trade, and energy sectors.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Moldova have strengthened significantly in recent years, characterized by a shared commitment to regional security and economic integration. Both nations, as members of the Eastern Partnership and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, frequently coordinate their positions on international platforms. This visit by the Moldovan Foreign Minister underscores the growing strategic importance of energy security and trade diversification in the Black Sea and Caspian regions, where Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role as a reliable energy supplier to Eastern Europe.
