Azerbaijan and South Korea explore new strategic partnership opportunities
The development perspectives of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and South Korea have been discussed in Baku. Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by Baek Joo-hyeon, the special representative of the South Korean Foreign Minister, to review key strategic issues and regional cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told “Operative Information Center-OMM” that the meeting focused on expanding cooperation in political, economic, trade, educational, and high-technology sectors. Both parties emphasized the importance of intensifying mutual high-level visits to further strengthen the bond between the two nations.
During the discussions, the role of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of South Korea was highlighted, alongside the necessity of regular political consultations between the respective foreign ministries. It was noted with satisfaction that 2027 will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Energy, transport projects, and "C6" format cooperation
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the large-scale energy and transport projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the region, including plans for the export of alternative energy. The sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan's cooperation with Central Asian countries, specifically within the framework of the "C6" format.
The importance of developing interregional ties, expanding transport and logistics capabilities, and deepening economic partnerships was a central theme of the talks. These initiatives are seen as vital components of Azerbaijan's strategy to transform the South Caucasus into a global logistics hub connecting East and West.
Post-conflict restoration and regional security
The minister also briefed the South Korean delegation on the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period, focusing on the extensive restoration and reconstruction work being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. These efforts aim to reintegrate the Garabagh region into the national economy and ensure the sustainable return of displaced persons.
Furthermore, the parties exchanged views on regional and international security issues, including the current situation in the Middle East. The South Korean side expressed deep gratitude to Azerbaijan for the support provided in the evacuation of its citizens from Iran through Azerbaijani territory. This gesture underscores the high level of trust and humanitarian cooperation between Baku and Seoul.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on other matters of mutual interest, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to a stable and prosperous partnership.
