Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss regional security and bilateral relations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan released a statement regarding the exchange. During the call, the ministers focused on the current regional situation and the status of diplomatic ties between the two neighboring nations.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of Iran completing its investigations into the drone attacks launched from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, in accordance with previous assurances. He stressed that targeting civilian objects during military conflicts is unacceptable and reiterated Azerbaijan's position on the necessity of ending military escalation in the region through diplomatic negotiations and dialogue.
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, has recently faced security challenges that have necessitated high-level diplomatic engagement between Baku and Tehran. Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for regional stability and the protection of its sovereign borders, emphasizing that the restoration of peace in the South Caucasus is vital for economic development and regional integration. The ministers concluded the call by exchanging views on other matters of mutual interest and the future of bilateral cooperation.
