Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of the IDEA Public Union, has outlined new initiatives aimed at environmental protection and urban sustainability. Speaking to participants of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), she emphasized the organization's commitment to creating a "green future" through large-scale ecological projects and public engagement.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the address was delivered during an event titled "Giving Life to the New Urban Agenda: Integrating Air Quality and Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities." Aliyeva noted that IDEA has implemented numerous initiatives, including planting millions of trees, conducting educational programs, and raising awareness about air and water pollution. "IDEA transforms courtyards into greener, accessible public spaces for all generations, encouraging people to spend more time outdoors and breathe clean air," the statement read. She further highlighted that the organization has collected over 120 tons of waste through beach cleanups and recycling campaigns while actively promoting sustainable transport such as cycling.
The IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Union, launched in 2011, plays a pivotal role in Azerbaijan's environmental strategy. By focusing on youth engagement and urban restoration, the organization aligns with Azerbaijan's broader goals of sustainable development and ecological preservation. The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, serves as the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization, providing a platform for international leaders to share innovative solutions for the challenges facing modern cities.
