The salaries of all military personnel of the Ministry of Defense will increase by an average of 22.8% after taxes and other mandatory payments are deducted.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this provision is included in a draft law on amendments to the Tax Code and the laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the status of military personnel, police service, approval of the Regulation on service in customs authorities, service in prosecution bodies, approval of the Regulation on service in the internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, intelligence and counterintelligence activities, service in justice bodies, approval of the Regulation on service in migration bodies, and service in emergency situations bodies. The draft was discussed by the Milli Majlis Committee on Defense, Security and the Fight Against Corruption.
Under the proposed new approach, the link between the pension amount and the service-related financial allowance will be removed. The pension amount will instead be calculated based on the pension capital recorded in an individual personal account.
The basic salary will be replaced by a position salary and a rank salary, with the rank salary increased to 70%. This is expected to further improve the welfare of military personnel and encourage them to continue serving.
The proposed changes form part of broader legislative adjustments concerning remuneration, pensions and social guarantees for personnel serving in Azerbaijan’s defense, law-enforcement and other state institutions. The draft must complete the relevant legislative procedures before taking effect.
