The Main State Traffic Police Department has issued a stern warning regarding the illegal transportation of passengers in agricultural vehicles, tractors, and trailers, noting that such practices frequently lead to severe road accidents. As agricultural activity intensifies, authorities are emphasizing the critical need for compliance with traffic safety regulations to protect workers and other road users.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Main State Traffic Police Department stated that the rise in agricultural machinery on public roads during the harvest season has increased the risk of incidents. Officials highlighted that many of these vehicles fail to meet technical safety requirements, often lacking functional lighting, proper registration, or having unauthorized modifications, all of which pose significant dangers to both the drivers and the public.
The department further cautioned that transporting hay or other agricultural products without proper packaging, or exceeding weight and dimension limits, is a primary cause of high-severity accidents. "Considering the acceleration of harvest work, the Main State Traffic Police Department once again calls on legal and physical entities engaged in agricultural activities to ensure the safety of their workers and to strictly adhere to legislation regarding the transportation and packaging of products. We are strengthening control measures in this area," the official statement noted.
In Azerbaijan, road safety regulations are strictly enforced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to reduce traffic-related fatalities. The use of agricultural equipment for passenger transport is prohibited under national traffic laws, as these vehicles are not designed for human safety, lacking seatbelts, protective structures, and the stability required for passenger transit on public highways.
