A suspect has been detained in Baku for allegedly posing as a bank employee and stealing a large sum of money from a citizen.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) released an official statement regarding the incident, as reported by Operative Information Center-OMM.
According to the investigation, the suspect contacted the victim from an unknown number, falsely claiming that there had been an "unauthorized intervention" into the victim's bank card. After convincing the victim to provide sensitive card details, the suspect managed to seize 13,000 manat from the account.
As a result of operational measures carried out by officers of the 21st Police Station of the Nasimi District Police Department, the suspect, identified as 38-year-old A. Zaliyev, was identified and taken into custody. Investigations into the case are currently ongoing to determine the full extent of the fraudulent activities.
Cybercrime and banking fraud have become a growing concern in Azerbaijan, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts against digital theft. The Ministry of Internal Affairs frequently advises citizens to remain vigilant, never share CVV codes or passwords with strangers, and to remember that official bank representatives never request sensitive card information over the phone.
