Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have held a telephone conversation to discuss the conflict in Ukraine and bilateral relations.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the discussion was confirmed by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, who noted that the call lasted approximately 90 minutes. During the conversation, the Russian leader expressed his support for President Trump following the recent assassination attempt, strongly condemning the criminal act.
According to Ushakov, the two leaders focused heavily on the situation in Ukraine. President Putin expressed readiness to declare a ceasefire by Victory Day and informed US President Donald Trump of this position. The presidential aide stated that President Trump voiced support for the ceasefire proposal. Putin also provided data regarding the exchange of remains, noting that since the beginning of 2025, Russia has returned over 20,000 bodies to Ukraine while receiving slightly more than 500. The Russian leader emphasized that for a negotiated settlement, the Ukrainian side must respond positively to previously established proposals.
This high-level communication comes at a critical juncture in international relations as the global community seeks a resolution to the ongoing crisis in Eastern Europe. Since assuming office in January 2025, US President Donald Trump has emphasized the importance of direct dialogue to address regional security challenges.
