US President Donald Trump has declined an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron to attend an extraordinary Group of Seven (G7) summit in Paris, which was intended to include representatives from Russia and Ukraine. According to reports citing White House sources, the US leader does not plan to travel to the French capital for the proposed meeting.
A White House official confirmed that there are currently no plans for the President to visit Paris for such a gathering. The proposal surfaced after President Trump shared details of his correspondence with Macron, in which the French leader suggested hosting a special session of G7 nations. The proposed guest list for the meeting reportedly included the following parties:
- Russia;
- Ukraine;
- Syria;
- Denmark.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow has not yet received an official invitation to participate in the summit.
The G7, consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, serves as a forum for the world's leading industrialized democracies to coordinate global economic and security policies. Russia was suspended from the then-G8 in 2014. Discussions regarding Russia's potential return or participation in specific sessions have frequently been a point of diplomatic contention among member states, reflecting broader geopolitical tensions and the importance of upholding international law and territorial integrity.
